The Key To Looking Put Together
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of minimalist, tomboy style. Structured shirts, little-to-no color, casual hairstyles…yes, yes, yes! However, I’ve run across a problem that, until recently, I couldn’t find an answer for. Basically, I’d put together what I thought was a great outfit, very casual and masculine, but when I glanced in the mirror it just looked like I was about to go mow the lawn. Turns out there is just a very fine line between Jane Birkin and Hank Hill.
But one day I was reading the backlogs of Un-Fancy (a fantastic blog about using a capsule-wardrobe) and the author wrote that the key to looking put together is…accessories!
To be honest, at first I was a little bummed because I’m so bad at accessorizing. Anytime I try to layer accessories I always give up in a fit of grumpiness. But once I started to think about it, I realized how true this is. I have a couple friends in particular who use accessories to great effect and even the actress Selma Blair says, “I find that as long as I have on a couple of good gold cuffs, a few pieces of jewelry that make me feel like I’m still part of the living, then the rest of my outfit can be a little crumpled.”
What are your thoughts? Do you agree about the power of accessories to pull together an outfit? Is there anything you pay special attention to in order to look nice, even if the rest of your outfit may be thrown together? How do you pull off tomboy style? Give me some tips!
