Some things I like...
Pinterest is a great resource for refining your style. As you collect images, with their products and pictures and quotes, you organically create and curate mood boards that tell you what you like. I organize most of my pins into boards (style, valentine, food, etc.) but sometimes I happen upon a pin that defies categorization. I’m drawn to it, but I can’t really articulate why. When this happens, I click the “like” button.
When I step back and look at all the “liked” pins, I notice that these images are usually things a little outside the box, or rather, outside my box. They are things that I like, but that take me a little out of my comfort zone. More recently, I’ve noticed that these things are forming their own categorization, and instead of being a mishmash of pins, they actually look like they go together. This kind of surprised me, since I don’t spend any amount of time analyzing whether or not to “like” it. I just think, “I kind of like that, but I don’t know why,” so I push the button. Anyway, I’ve been spending more time studying this fringe Pinterest board that I’ve made, and I sense my style moving in a different direction. In no particular order, here are some of the images that I “liked” ::
What about you? Do you think Pinterest is helpful for analyzing your style? What are some things that you like, but that you can’t really even explain why?
