Home Air Purification

This post is written by aannagreer contributor Jen Wade. Jen shares all kinds of helpful advice on health and wellness, often with an emphasis on using essential oils to cut out toxins and chemicals from your home.

I used to love all kinds of candles, oil burners, and room fresheners for my home. I assumed, probably like most people, that every item had passed some sort of approval and inspection before it was allowed to be on the store shelf and used in our homes. Surely we wouldn’t be able to buy and use products that are toxic to our environment and health. Right? Wrong!

There are loopholes in the FDA regulations on products. Just take air fresheners, for example. This government website states that formaldehyde causes cancer. Go ahead and search “formaldehyde air fresheners”. I could not believe the first search result! It’s an EPA website for kids listing out the ingredients of air fresheners and stating that they are toxic. There are many air fresheners that line our store shelves, giving people the impression that these products are not harmful or have in some way been tested. This is simply not true. (So why are these being sold and then used in our homes?)

But, we want our homes to smell nice! So, what’s the healthy alternative? Diffusing wonderfully smelling, pure therapeutic grade essential oils, of course!! Young Living essential oils not only make your home smell nice, but also clean the air, help build up your immune system, and boost your mood as you breathe in the essential oils. I guarantee those room sprays and plug-ins from the store are not boosting your immune system and adding benefit to your health.

There are so many wonderfully smelling and therapeutic essential oils you can diffuse in your home. Some of my favorite essential oils to diffuse are:

Thieves

This is a blend of clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, and eucalyptus essential oils. This proprietary essential oil blend was university tested for its cleansing abilities. It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health, and killing airborne bacteria. Anytime we have a lot of people over or one of us is coming down with something, we diffuse Thieves throughout the house to kill germs and boost our immune system. Those other “germ killing sprays” for the home definitely don’t boost your immune system as you inhale the odors!

Purification

This is a blend of lemongrass, rosemary, lavindin, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree), myrtle and citronella. This blend doesn’t just cover up and add fragrance on top of odors…it eliminates odors all together! The cleansing effect of Purification helps cleanse and neutralize mildew, cigarette smoke, disagreeable odors, cat urine, hotel rooms, paint odors, burnt food or strong smelling food odors. It’s also great to spray on clothes that need freshening up or stinky shoes. BONUS: I use this blend as an insect repellent and it’s great for bites from spiders, wasps, bees, mosquitoes, and ants!

Lavender, Lemon & Peppermint

I love to diffuse each of these individually or all three together, as all three may help reduce sneezing, itchy eyes, and other unwanted irritations associated with occasional allergies that we deal with throughout the year. Lavender can help with relaxation and sleep and reduce tension and stress. Lemon smells like rays of sunshine! It can help with mental acuity and focus, is very cleansing, and so many other great uses. Peppermint is very uplifting and can also help with concentration and focus. The University of Cincinnati found that inhaling peppermint oil increased mental accuracy by 28%!

Stress Away

This essential oil blend is a natural solution created to combat normal stresses in our everyday lives. Stress Away is the first product to contain the unique stress-relieving combination of lime and vanilla pure absolute along with copaiba, cedarwood, ocotea, and lavender essential oils. These oils can reduce mental rigidity, restore equilibrium, calm nerves, and balance the emotions. It smells so wonderful and is so uplifting!

Joy

This is a powerhouse blend of bergamot, lemon, palmarosa, ylang ylang, mandarin, rosewood, geranium, jasmine, roman chamomile, and rose. Joy has a wonderful floral yet citrus smell and is very uplifting to the mood and emotions. It can also be worn as a beautiful perfume!

So, not only do these oils smell great and add amazing scents to your home while boosting your immune system and helping to balance your mood and emotions, but they are so versatile and can be used to help replace so many home and personal care items. You can get these oils and several others, along with a home diffuser, with a wholesale discount here. Plus, anyone who orders the Everyday Essential Oils kit gets a free Chemical Free Home by Melissa M. Poepping to learn all about using essential oils for home and personal care products!

Thanks, Jen!
