Hair Texture

It used to be that when I wanted a new hairstyle, I’d scour the internet for pictures of celebrities’ haircuts, then schedule an appointment with a stylist. However, I’ve started to pay more attention to hair texture these days. Changing your hair from straight and sleek to curly and voluminous can completely change your look! I asked my stylist about experimenting with texture last time I went in for a trim and asked him for advice. He kind of shook his head at me and then said one word :: “product”. I must have looked a little disgruntled, because he went on to say that it’s like people who ask a personal trainer how to have a great body, and then act disappointed when the trainer says to exercise and eat better. If you want to have great hair texture, you have to spend the money on great hair products.

The next time I went to the store, I stood in the hair aisle and suddenly noticed all the different products available for your hair. Before, I really only thought in terms of hairspray, mousse, and gel. But suddenly I realized that all you have to do is imagine what texture you want for your hair and there will probably be a product specifically for that. For example, I love hair that is shiny and soft, but still has a natural, matte look. So I found a serum that’s supposed to make your hair soft and shiny, then found a volumizing powder with a matte finish. And truly, they worked. I bought the bottom of the line, so I can only imagine that more expensive products would work even better.

What about you? What kind of hair texture are you aiming for when you style your hair? Do you have any products you love? Any advice on achieving a great hair texture?
