God Made You
One of the very first things we ever taught Valentine about God was this:
Us: What did God make?
Us: What else did God make?
Valentine: Everything else.
Us: Why did he make it?
Valentine: For his glory.
As we dive into The Darling Basics, we’ll start with another fundamental aspect of godly sexuality, which is that God made us.
Know that the LORD is God; it is he that has made us and not we ourselves.
Psalm 100:3 puts us in our place when we begin to get too big-headed. Whenever we think that we have the right to identify ourselves, to define our existence, or to determine our own truth. We didn’t make ourselves and so we must face the fact that someone else knows our true purpose and identity.
But we love to gives ourselves our own identities, don’t we? “I am introverted.” “I am creative.” “I am a people person.” “I am single.” “I am lonely.” “I am gay.” “I am straight.” “I am bossy.” “I am unsexy.”
If God is our maker, then we don’t have the right to define our own identity—only God does. We are who he says we are, and he says we are his beloved creation.
