Do or Don't? :: Afternoon Tea
Now that I drink less coffee, I have a definite slump sometime between 1-3 every afternoon. To beat it, sometimes I get busy on a project, sometimes I nap, sometimes I just sit outside for a couple minutes and let the breeze wake me up. But I was reading recently and came across this piece of advice ::
Practice the English custom of afternoon tea. Drink one or two cups of green or black tea accompanied by 1 or 2 ounces of low-fat cheese and a whole-grain biscuit. The tea contains polyphenols and antioxidants to help repair cell damage. The cheese contains protein, calcium, and probiotics to aid digestion. And the whole-grain biscuit is a source of fiber. The entire snack is just about 200 calories-and if you can take 15 minutes to sip in peace, you’ll find it fully satisfying and restorative. (Living the Good Long Life by Martha Stewart)
It seems that the British knew what they were doing. In the simple ritual of afternoon tea you find so many benefits: a gentle wake-me-up, a nutritious and moderate snack, a relaxing space in which to center yourself in the middle of the day. I absolutely love this idea!
What about you? What do you do about the afternoon slump? Do you have any daily rituals? Would you ever start practicing afternoon tea?
