AG Monthly Challenge :: The Gratitude Challenge

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. —James 1:17
Eucharist [thanksgiving] is the state of the perfect man. Eucharist is the life of paradise. Eucharist is the only full and real response of man to God’s creation, redemption, and gift of heaven. —Alexander Schmemann

There’s been a lovely tradition on social media the last few years to post something you’re grateful for every day during the month of November. The internet is a little hazy about who actually started this tradition and who keeps it going, but I think this is the perfect challenge for us this month. To complete The Gratitude Challenge, write down something you’re thankful for each day during the month of November and then thank God for that thing.

Some ways you can do this ::

  • Write it down in your monthly planner, a different thing you’re thankful for on each date.
  • Post your gratitude on social media, knowing that your gratitude might prompt someone else to be grateful to God as well.
  • Find someone you can share with at the end of each day and tell each other what you’re thankful for. The dinner table would be the perfect context for this.

Remember that your gratitude isn’t just about having a better attitude, but about acknowledging the reality that God has surrounded us with his grace and given us so many good things! Let yourself take a month to revel in the good gifts of our Father.
